Hands-on Pottery

Intrigued by all the construction going on in this crazy city? Pottery can be a very gratifying hobby that creates joy and satisfying results. It is the opportunity to use one’s hands to work an inanimate block of clay into a personalized and beautiful piece of art. Even more importantly, it is an enjoyable release that relies completely on the sculptor’s mood and creativity – a wonderful gift for anyone that needs to unwind, roll up their sleeves, and get their hands a bit dirty!

The Process:

In this 2-hour pottery experience, the recipient will receive an introduction to pottery using hands-on pinch, coil and slab method in an internationally-recognized design studio. The recipient will learn both historical facts and basic techniques for preparing, moulding, and the stretching the clay to achieve certain forms. If the recipient has no idea what they would like to make, they are encouraged to draw inspiration from the wide variety of bowls, pots, cups, and sculptures that can be found in the studio!

Once the recipient has decided their design, the studio’s experienced potters will give suggestions on a few necessary steps needed to create the desired shape. Then it’s the recipient’s turn to stretch, stack, and create something worth bragging about! When they’re finished, they will be given a palette of glazes to choose from, and the studio takes care of the rest.Please note: Due to the time-consuming process of firing the pottery, the recipient’s completed piece will be delivered with I Care Liwu’s Thank you package.
